The iMeem Interface Is Gone! Now It Looks Like MySpace!
I recently blogged about how many of the free MP3 websites seem to be getting bought out by the bigger fish. Well, have you been to iMeem lately? I knew that MySpace had purchased iMeem so I was prepared for that. What I was not prepared for was the see the familiar iMeem interface gone, to be completely replaced by a typical MySpace page. iMeem’s catalog has now been folded into MySpace Music and it is now simply a MySpace page like any other. Its identity has been completely supplanted into MySpace and I’m not sure I like that. iMeem had its own interface, its own look and feel, its own flavor, its own identity. And now that’s all gone. Poof. Vanished. Not only that but much of the music that I enjoyed listening to on iMeem — the rare, obscure Prince 12″ singles from the eighties, electrofunk classics like Loveride by Nuance featuring Vikki Love or One More Shot by C-Bank featuring Jenny Burton — all of that is gone now. I don’t know about you but I think that kind of sucks. I had no idea that the buyout of iMeem by MySpace would result in the homogenization of the former by the latter like that. I cry foul on that, MySpace — shame on you. Now I fear for how long Craiglist will be able to hold on to its own individuality in the face of its deal with eBay which now seems to be on the rocks.
