Let’s Talk About Catsuits [Post a Comment]
Jennifer Lopez rings in the new year in a catsuit If you watched Dick Clark’s Rocking New Years Eve to ring in the new year, you probably saw Jennifer Lopez — currently on the comeback trail with a new CD — perform live wearing the catsuit pictured here. Many are picking apart her look, some saying she looked hot, some saying she looked awful. Let’s talk about some sisters who have done the catsuit look and decide who looked the best in them.

Jennifer Lopez rings in the new year in a catsuit Here is another look at the one-time “Fly Girl” from In Living Color in her catsuit. After getting her body back in shape from making babies, the fact that she could pull off the catsuit look was a triumph. But some feel that she did not pull it off well enough. Is the catsuit for everyone? Let’s look at some other singers of color who pulled it off in the past.

Alicia Keys did the catsuit for a video shoot Alicia Keys did the catsuit for a video shoot Alicia Keys, who is giving a concert at the Apollo which will be available live online for free, did the catsuit look for a video shoot she did back in October of 2009 with Jay-Z. Alicia Keys has come a long way from her early days when she was more into funky chic and then gradually went for demure sexy before fully embracing her femininity and sex appeal with her attire. What do you think of her catsuit look?

Beyoncé on the Today Show in 2008 Beyoncé Knowles, no stranger to dressing in sexy and provocative clothing, performed on NBC’s Today Show back in November, 2008 in a black, form-fitting, body-covering catsuit complete with sexy gloves and boots. Did she do the look justice?

Beyoncé on the Today Show in 2008 Kelly Rowland in London Now compare Beyoncé to her former Destiny’s Child cohort, Kelly Rowland, who sported practically the same look in a London performance a little more than a year earlier, in October of 2007. Who do you think rocked the look better?

Mary J. Blige with a twist on the catsuit look Mary J. Blige with a twist on the catsuit look Now for a different take on the catsuit look, here’s Mary J. Blige. This lady is no stranger to constant changes to her attire and appearance. She, like Alicia Keys, has also come a long way from sporting funky, hip hop styles to sporting more sophisticated styles of attire. In particular, the lady has shown a very pronounced fetish for boots, as pictured here in a July, 2008 performance in New Orleans at the Essence Music Festival. This look is described as a cross between a catsuit and a jumpsuit.

So, who do you think rocked the catsuit look the best? How would you compare Jennifer Lopez’s New Years Day catsuit look to that of Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys, and Mary J. Blige? Do you think the catsuit works for these sexy singing sisters?

Since we are talking about sexy entertainers of color in catsuits (and no, I am not going to take it all the way back to the late Eartha Kitt from the sixties as Catwoman — that would be too obvious), I could not resist ending this with a very well known sister in entertainment albeit not in music but equally well known:

Behold the 2009 Female Athlete of the Year
