Hope For Haiti Now Telethon Concert Airing Tomorrow (Friday) [Post a Comment]
HAITI NEEDS HELP! I’m sure we all know about the tragedies going on in the beleaguered island nation of Haiti. The earthquake aftershocks continue to add insult to injury in the already devastating tragedy. Massive loss of lives. Massive property damage. Massive injuries. Well, tomorrow (Friday) night, there will be a nationally aired telethon benefit concert for the people of Haiti.

This is a two-hour telethon that will be broadcast from New York, London, Los Angeles and, of course, Haiti itself. It airs Friday January 22nd at 8 PM EST and will be on all of the major networks.

The roster already includes the likes of Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, and Keith Urban. Non-performers include (former) President Bill Clinton, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

When I saw the 60 Minutes report on the tragedy this past Sunday night and saw how the deceased were being disposed of, it was heartbreaking. The death count is so massive in Haiti that the land is — very literally — littered with dead bodies.

They don’t even get the dignity of a decent burial or even identification because, for “health reasons”, the dead bodies had to be disposed of. The report actually showed dump trucks coming in and scooping the bodies up like they were garbage. The truck was literally driving off filled to the brim with masses of dead human bodies like you would see your neighborhood sanitation department truck drivin goff with your bags of trash from off the street. It was pathetic and heartbreaking.

The positive thing to come out of this unprecendented tragedy is the outpouring of help and support from nations, businesses, churches, and President Obama’s administration in trying to give financial help to the country.

This hastily formed benefit concert/telethon airing Friday night at 8PM EST hopes to be able to raise even more money to aid Haiti in its tragic plight. I will be home watching it.
