Sad Update On P-Funk Vocalist Mallia Franklin
Back in July I blogged about Parliament and Parlet vocalist Mallia Franklin suffering a stroke and heart attack. Well, no sooner had I finished reading about the passing of P-Funk leader George Clinton’s son at his home, I read more sad news. It turns out that Mallia Franklin has been on life support all this time. Well, according to this post on the official George Clinton Facebook page, the decision has been made by her son, doctor, and priest to remove Mallia from life support at midnight PST Saturday. Mallia Franklin was known as the “Queen Of Funk” and was an early female member of Parliament-Funkadelic. She would front the female Parliament group Parlet, then would work with drummer Donnie Sterling on a new P-Funk spinoff, Sterling Starship Band before later going solo. It’s only February and already the year is starting off with way, way too many celebrity passings. I can only imagine what George Clinton must be going through emotionally with his mother’s passing in December and the just recent passing of his son George. Now this. Very sad news indeed on board the Mothership.
