Has Whitney Houston Lost Her Gift?
Much has been said about Whitney Houston and her big comeback CD, I Look To You. Much has been said about her faltering vocals. Now the latest news is her apparently disastrous performance during her tour in Brisbane, Australia. Sigh.
Whitney’s publicist is doing damage control now in light of the scathing reviews of her performance in Brisbane, where some people angrily walked out on her saying she was terrible. Various clips of her performance can be found on YouTube (search for “Whitney Houston Australia”).
I watched some of the news footage from CBS and Australia’s own TAN, and I watched various clips from the performance. These include current music and her all-time classic, Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You.
While you can hear people in the audience applauding her efforts, you can also sadly hear how her voice just is not there any more. Now, unless she establishes that she simply had a bad cold or was otherwise under the weather during her performance, the clips clearly show that she just was not in top form vocally. Whitney Houston looks great. Very beautiful and sexy in that blue mini-dress and boots. In fact, she has been favoring mini-dresses and/or boots quite a bit lately in her performances, showing that her body is in great condition.
Unfortunately, as the aforementioned clips on YouTube clearly and sadly show, her vocals are no longer there. Does Whitney Houston have it any more or is her great, God-given gift (going alliterative on you there), her beautiful singing voice, gone for good now? Can she get it back or should she should hang it up and retire?
