Any Glee Fans Out There? Let’s Give Up The Funk!
I’ve actually been sleeping on the TV show Glee. However, it seems to be a great show for putting a modern spin on older music as well as current music. What do you think? Thanks to a certain website, you can check out pretty much all of the performances from the series in videos. What caught my attention was when I stumbled upon a list of the songs, in order by episode, on Wikipedia and I scrolled down to see that they did an episode dedicated to the FUNK! Check out this video of them doing — believe it or not — Parliament Funkadelic’s Tear The Roof Off The Sucker (Give Up The Funk). When you’re finished watching that, compare it to the original. What do you think of how the Glee kids did it? What are your thoughts in general on the cover versions of the classics by the Glee kids — do you think they do the songs justice? For the record, I was actually kind of impressed. I mean, the last definitive version of Give Up The Funk was from the equally old school hip hop classic remake by The Sequence (featuring a pre-neosoul Angie Stone).
