Klymaxx’s Fenderella Sues Former Protégé
I just found this out today after going on Facebook and reading a post from Joyce “Fenderella” Irby of Klymaxx, concerning a story that just broke from TMZ and Perez Hinton. Apparently, a former young singing protégé of hers has reneged on a financial settlement with her and has forced her hand in court. As noted on the Outside Projects page on T-Mad’s Music’s Klymaxx site, bassist and co-lead vocalist Joyce “Fenderella” Irby managed a boy band called N-Toon, which featured a young man from Atlanta named Lloyd Polite. She later managed Lloyd when he went solo. Well, in 2010 a settlement agreement was reached between Lloyd and Joyce Irby where he would pay her $100,000 and procure a gig for her. Apparently, he has only paid her a fifth of that amount and did not produce a gig for her. Now she finds herself having to take him to court for welching on that agreement, suing him for the remaining 80%, the gig, legal fees, and “whatever else the court deems proper.” The following is some of what Joyce Irby herself had to say on the matter on her Facebook page: In light of TMZ breaking a story about a matter between me and Lloyd, I would just like to say that I have always enjoyed facilitating young people in the music business. However, navigating fame can be very difficult for a person of any age, much less a young man or woman in their 20’s. Believe it or not, it[’]s hard out there for a new millionaire. … I have loved and protected Lloyd like a son since he was 11 years old, and it saddens me that I have had to go the “legal” route to force him to keep his word … She obviously takes no pleasure in having to go the route of suing the young Lloyd Polite. However, as a businesswoman, she has to take care of her business. Not exactly the way, I’m sure, that Fenderella wanted to make the news in any case.
