Unsung: Angela Bofill [Post a Comment]
This week’s installment of TV One’s Unsung, Cuban-Puerton Rican songstress Angela Bofill, was tasetfully done and thorough as always. I had wondered what her health status was after learning from a colleague of her multiple strokes. It was nice to get an update on that, albeit bittersweet.
I enjoyed listening to her quiet storm songs back in the eighties — Somebody Walked Into My Life, This Time I’ll Be Sweeter, and my favorite I Try. And then there was her dance hit Too Tough, and I saw that Soul Train performance so that brought back memories for me.
The culmination of the story was her health issues. The fact that she has been disabled by back to back debilitating strokes, leaving her speech slightly incapacitated but enough so that she is unable to sing is sad. The fact that her mobility is limited due to the strokes is sad.
However, as she herself said on the show, she is alive and is able to talk and is able to work on walking properly again. Hence, her story is one of hope and courage, which is definitely not a bad thing at all.
